This policy explains how Swan Hill Directory (swanhill.directory) handles personal information. For privacy questions or requests, email contact@swanhill.directory.
Information we collect
We collect information you provide when you create an account, submit or claim a business listing, request a correction or contact us. This may include your name, email address, business contact details, account information and information supplied to verify that you represent a business. Please provide only what is needed; do not send identity documents or sensitive personal information unless we specifically request it through an appropriate process.
We may also collect business information from publicly available sources, such as business websites. Business details can be personal information where they identify an individual, including a sole trader. Our website and hosting services may record technical information such as IP addresses, browser details, access times and pages requested for operation, troubleshooting and security.
How we use information
We use information to operate and improve the directory, publish and maintain business profiles, manage accounts, review listing claims, respond to enquiries and corrections, and prevent misuse. If you enquire about digital marketing or other services, we use the information you supply to respond. You can ask us to stop promotional contact by emailing us or using an unsubscribe option where provided.
Public business profiles and uploads
Details submitted for a business profile, including descriptions, business contact details and images, are intended for public display and may appear in search engines. Only submit information and images you have permission to publish. Avoid uploading images containing embedded GPS location information or other private metadata. Account administration details and claim verification messages are not intended for publication as part of a listing.
Cookies and Google services
WordPress uses cookies for functions such as signing in, maintaining sessions and remembering preferences. You can control or delete cookies through your browser; blocking them may prevent account features from working.
The site uses Google tags, including Google Tag Manager, to support website measurement. Depending on the tags enabled and your browser or consent settings, Google services may receive information such as pages visited, interactions, device and browser information, identifiers and approximate location derived from an IP address, and may use cookies. Google Tag Manager manages tags; each enabled service determines how the information it receives is used. See Google’s Privacy Policy and information about Google cookies.
Service providers and external websites
Information is stored and processed using our website hosting and email services, including Uptime Web Hosting, and the technical services needed to run the directory. Authorised administrators and service providers may access information where necessary to provide support, maintain security or operate the site. We may also disclose information when required by law or reasonably necessary to address unlawful activity or protect legal rights.
Some service providers, including Google, operate internationally, so information may be processed outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries where they operate. Business websites linked from the directory have their own privacy practices. If a page contains embedded third-party content, that provider may receive information about your visit and use its own cookies.
Storage and retention
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security. We keep information for as long as reasonably needed to operate the directory, maintain accounts, handle enquiries and meet legal or security needs. Backups may retain information for a period after it is removed from the live site.
Access, corrections and removal
You can request access to or correction of personal information we hold about you, or ask us to remove personal information or a business listing, by emailing contact@swanhill.directory. Include the relevant listing URL and the change requested. We may need to verify your identity or authority before acting. Some records may need to be retained for legal, security or administrative reasons; we will explain any limits that apply to your request.
Privacy concerns and changes
If you have a privacy concern, contact us with the details so we can investigate and respond. If the matter is not resolved, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner where applicable. We may update this policy as the directory or its services change; the current version and update date will be published on this page.
